This sesame noodles recipe uses only 10 ingredients, one pot, and one skillet to make cooking simple. Easy to prepare for lunch or dinner, you can customize this dish with your favorite proteins and veggies. Even the leftovers are delicious, served hot or cold, the next day too.

Ingredients

  • 1 lbs linguini noodles
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 bell pepper sliced into thin strips, optional (Note 1)
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1-2 green onions sliced
  • 1-2 garlic cloves pressed
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce Note 2
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1-3 squats Sriracha optional (Note 3)
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Salt the water and add noodles. Cook until al dente according to package directions. Drain.
  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add bell peppers and cook until nice and tender, 3 minutes. Transfer to a clean plate.
  • Add the white part of green onions and garlic into the now-empty skillet and cook until nice and fragrant, 1 minute.
  • Add soy sauce, brown sugar, and sriracha, if using. Simmer until sugar is melted.
  • Remove from heat and add drained spaghetti. Toss to combine.
  • Stir in sesame oil and sprinkle sesame seeds. Mix in the sauteed bell peppers or serve it on the side.

Notes

Note 1: Bell peppers are optional here. It’s a great way to add color and veggies to the meal. Feel free to use different colored bell peppers, or different vegetables, like carrots, broccoli, snap peas, etc.
Note 2: I highly recommend light Japanese soy sauce aka light soy sauce, such as Kikkoman All Purpose Soy Sauce, for this recipe. Learn more about different soy sauce varieties here.)
Note 3: If you love spicy food and are not serving it to kids, add a few squats of Sriracha into the sauce as you cook it. However, if you’re serving to kids or others who are not tolerant to spicy food, serve it on the side.
Storage Tips:
- Store leftover noodles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. We don't recommend freezing the noodles. Reheat the noodles in a skillet with a splash of water or in the microwave for a couple of minutes.
- Sesame noodles are also perfect to make ahead for meal prep early in the week. We love to eat them cold for lunch the next day.
